DJ AUDIOMAIZ (ED STRONG)

Spencer James

AUdioMaiz first heard the call of the house monster while at college in Brixton in ’88. He soon felt the need for two turntables in his life so 1210’s it was.  He smashed it up all over the West London and the home counties as DJ Ed Strong at many a gathering from the Exodus Collective to the Spiral Tribe. As the trials of life came on top he moved away from the scene he loved when it fast became the scene he hated. So a mellow country life followed for a good couple of decades with music being a passion and not a way to pay the bills.

Then came the day that changed his happy hippy existence. To put a long story short, he had a run in with a truck at 50mph. Bad enough, but when you understand that he was not in a vehicle and was standing at the side of the road you will realise how lucky he is not to be a statistic. So broken back, pelvis and loss of smell aside, he realised that the next 20 years needed a new plan. So with renewed effort and vigour AUdioMaiz was born from the ashes of Ed Strong.

AUdioMaiz has still got the 1210 skills, but he has fully embraced the new technology to enhance his smooth and effortless style. It is still, whatever it may sound like to you, just 2 records being mixed. No samples, loops or drum tracks just dropped in, like some sort of live Jive Bunny, this is mixing that is all about the artists music and the way a good DJ can take you to new feelings of unity with the omniverse.

Even though no one will say it, records weigh a ton and not ONE will stay in time down to the 1000th of a second for 3 and a half minutes….which is where you will find the beatmatching in any AUdioMaiz you care to listen to. Not that he likes to go on about it but the final insult from a 40 ton truck hitting his head is deafening tinitus. So AUdioMaiz has abandoned the headphones and only hears what you hear.  Luckily he has practised, HARD, because he wants you to listen to the journey that music can take you on.

Not just throw your hands in the air because there’s a camera pointed at you…Peace.
