June on the Costa del Sol does not ease you in gently. It arrives fully formed — heat, light, the sound of cicadas, and suddenly a calendar that fills up fast. This summer, one event is cutting through the noise before the peak-season machine takes over: Chicnic, returning to Marbella on Sunday 28th June at the iconic Don Carlos Resort & Spa. Music, food, wine, and a headline slot from one of house music’s genuine legends. Consider this your heads-up.
BeachGrooves Radio and JBL Professional are proud sponsors of Chicnic 2026. Between them they cover both ends of the experience: the music discovery and the sound system that delivers it. JBL Professional will be providing the professional audio setup for the day — which, given the outdoor scale of Don Carlos and Sandy’s preference for a system that actually moves air, matters more than most event listings let on.
Chicnic is positioned as a Music, Food & Wine experience — and that is not marketing fluff. The concept centres on The Tasting Garden, where some of the region’s most celebrated restaurants set up across the grounds, each station paired with Málaga wines and a selection of spirits. You eat well, you drink well, and you do it all with a soundtrack curated by an impressive DJ lineup.
The setting is Don Carlos Resort & Spa in Elviria — 20,000 square yards of tropical gardens opening onto one of Marbella’s best beaches. It is one of those venues that looks effortlessly right for this kind of event: shaded lawns, open sky, and enough space to spread out or plant yourself close to the stage. Dress code: Picnic Chic. Doors open at 2pm, running through to 10pm.
Sandy Rivera — the New York-born, Puerto Rican-heritage producer and DJ who operates as Kings of Tomorrow — is about as close to house music royalty as it gets. He started DJing at 13 in Spanish Harlem, began producing in 1992, and built his reputation on a strain of deeply soulful, emotionally direct house that has never really gone out of fashion.
The track most people know is Finally (2000), featuring the unmistakable voice of Julie McKnight. It charted in the UK, appeared on what felt like every serious house compilation of the decade, and still lands hard on a good sound system. But Sandy’s catalogue runs much deeper than that one record — his Deep Vision Records label has been releasing quality soulful house for over thirty years.
Having Sandy close out Chicnic is a strong booking. This is the kind of DJ who rewards a crowd that has been fed well and is genuinely in the mood to listen.
Building across the afternoon before Sandy takes over: DJs Tito Pulpo, Aruhtra, Paul Hutchinson, and Kawtar Tamwy. A mix of local scene figures and international guests setting the pace through the day.
For those who want the full works, Chicnic’s La Veranda VIP package includes covered seating, a curated selection of hors d’oeuvres, a sumptuous brunch, and an open bar running from 2–5pm covering Champagne, Rosé, wine, and beer. Table reservations for four are also available for groups who want their own space for the duration.
JBL Professional has been the backbone of live sound for over seven decades — from the 1975 Clair Brothers touring rigs that changed what a PA system could do, through the VerTec line arrays deployed at the Super Bowl and the Grammys, to the VTX Series powering major tours and festivals today. They are not a brand that shows up for branding purposes: they build systems designed for exactly this kind of outdoor environment, where garden acoustics, open air, and a crowd that is actually listening set the bar higher than a nightclub ever would.
Having JBL Professional on board means the Chicnic sound stage — from Kawter opening the afternoon through to Sandy closing the evening — will be delivered on a system built for it. Worth knowing if audio quality is something you pay attention to.
